24 HRS IN PASO ROBLES

Looking for the perfect weekend trip from Los Angeles or San Francisco? Look no further than Paso Robles! Im going to be diving into the perfect 24 hours in the area!

First lets talk about accommodations!

WHERE TO STAY

THE TRAILER POND Paso Robles is known for being home to many wineries in central California and we were lucky enough to actually stay in one while visiting!

The Trailer Pond is located on the Alta Colina Vineyard in the Adelaida District of Paso Robles. Its 10 minutes from down town Paso Robles and is one of the most unique and fun hotels in the area!

The Trailer Pond is more of a camping/glamping experience, where as they put it so well "you step into a time machine and get transported back to the 1950’s and 60’s when life was simpler!". You get to stay in a beautifully restored trailer deep in the valley of their winery around a beautiful pond and sweeping views of the vineyard! The trailer does not have any modern amenities like air conditioning or heat, but they do come equipped with a small fridge inside.

We stayed in the 1957 Deville trailer and it was SO cute. The trailer was equipped with 1 full size bed, fresh linens & towels, and a Keurig coffee maker with provided K Cups and an electric mini refrigerator. A full bathroom complex with an enclosed outdoor-style shower, a private vanity space and two private stalls is only a short walk away from the trailers. I encourage you to read through their entire FAQ page prior to booking your stay, it has all info for what to expect when staying here!

To see a more in depth tour of all the trailers you can choose from click here!

The Trailer Pond also has a communal fire pit area, kitchen, dining area, and deck on the pond. They also strongly encourage you to hike and explore the vineyard as if you owned the property! Be mindful of the vines and wildlife, mountain lions and bob cats, along with snakes can be seen in the area from time to time.

NOTE: The Trailer Pond is also available for group trips! Book the entire Trailer Pond for the perfect wine country getaway with family and friends!

Below is what the basic pond rental includes with the option to add on additional activities and/or meals.

  • Sleeping accommodations for up to 10 guests in vintage campers (2 guests per trailer)

  • Tent option for an additional 2 guests (for an additional fee)

  • Bottle of Alta Colina wine in each trailer

  • Full access to the 130 acres of winery grounds

  • Group wine tasting

  • Group bookings start at $2500 (plus hotel tax and cleaning fees)

Now, for the most important reason most people come out to Paso Robles, lets talk about wineries! There are so many wineries in the area it can be overwhelming to pick the right one, for this reason I look to see if there is a wine tasting experience that sets itself apart from all the others, and Alta Colina Winery has one!

WHERE TO WINE TASTE

Alta Colina Vineyard is located about ten minutes from downtown Paso Robles, and conveniently is also home to The Trailer Pond!

They are open daily and offer tastings in their tasting room or outside on their patio, BUT if you want to upgrade your experience do a Summit Vineyard Tasting.

This tasting experience takes you up a dirt road (manageable for any car), and into the actual vineyard. There you will have a private tasting and learn about the Tillman family's organic farming approach while enjoying the wines! You will sit under a beautiful Oak tree on a gorgeous deck overlooking the entire vineyard, definitely a must do!

This experience is for up to 6 people and costs $70 per person! Book your tasting here!

WHERE TO EAT

Depending on your tasting time it'll probably end around lunch or dinner. There are a bunch of great places to eat in downtown Paso Robles, but here are a few of my favorites!

A Paso Robles staple and usually the first place people say when asked the question "where should I eat in Paso Robles?" Fish Gaucho is in the heart of downtown Paso Robles and has a menu likely to please anyone. The bar is the main attraction here so when asked if you want to sit inside or outside, say inside!

We ordered the Ahi Tuna Tacos and the Carnitas tacos, along with two OG margaritas. I LOVE Ahi Tuna, but I will say the carnitas tacos were slightly better!

One bad thing I will say is that this place is expensive. The food is great, but the price tag hurts a bit and I honestly think its overpriced, BUT that being said I would definitely return and think its worth it.

If planning to come here, MAKE A RESERVATION! This place gets packed at all times of the day, make your res here!

CANE'S TIKI ROOM Need a break from wine? Cane's Tiki Room will make you feel like you've momentarily escaped to the tropics. I don't know about you but I love tiki rooms and always make a point to find one in any town I visit.

We stopped here for lunch and got two Mai Tai's, very good, and an order of the Orange Chicken and Pot Stickers. Both were good but the Potstickers stole the show, definitely order those when you visit here!

Also keep in mind this place OPENS at 4!

NIGHT ACTIVITY

After eating walk around downtown and check out some of the breweries in the area, my personal favorite is California Coast Beer Co., they have live music and a great outdoor patio perfect for summer nights!

If you're feeling like doing something more, then I suggest ending the day at Sensorio Paso Robles. Sensorio is an immersive walk-through outdoor exhibit that is now permanent and will continue year round!

Its such a stunning installation and for the best experience arrive before sunset, seeing the sun set over the installation was so beautiful and a highlight of the night. I wrote a more indepth blog post about Sensorio, you can read that here!

And that's my 24 hours in Paso Robles! I love this area so much, its a great weekend trip and every time I visit there's more and more places I find that I fall in love with!

Let me know what you love to do in Paso Robles in the comments!
