Camping at one of the most sought after campgrounds in Laguna Beach!
As I was sitting on my computer looking up beach campgrounds in Southern California, I came across Crystal Cove Campground. Crystal Cove Campground is an extension to Crystal Cove state park, and made up of three campgrounds, Moro campground, Upper Moro, and Lower Moro campground.
Upper and Lower Moro campgrounds are HIKE IN ONLY, so if you're planning on booking here pay attention to what campground you are reserving. For our trip, we snagged a spot at Moro Campground the main campground of this state park.
This campground is made up of 60 sites and is $55 for a standard site per night, $74 for a site with hook ups if you're planning on brining an RV or trailer.
The best sites to grab in Moro campground are sites 51-60, these sites are all located along the bluff, allowing you to have sweeping views of the ocean and no one else in front of you. We got campsite 60 and had the best site of the whole campground in my opinion! If you want to see a map of all the numbered sites you can look here. I will also add campsite 42 is another great site to look out for if you can't grab any sites on the bluff row. The campsites here are huge! So much space for multiple tents and ample room to park a couple cars. I believe our site was a bit bigger than the others, so if you're camping with a group definitely keep an eye out for this spot.
A great perk of staying here is that you have access to the beach on the other side of the highway via walk through tunnel. It was closed for construction when we visited, but its extremely convenient since this allows you access to the beach without having to leave your campsite. I want to note that this campground is NOT located in Crystal Cove state park. If you plan on going to Crystal Cove State Park while camping here, know you need to drive there, but its only about 5 minutes away so you're not far from it.
Another great addition is the small trail along the bluffs at the base of the campground. Here you can see sweeping views of the ocean while walking along the bluffs and the pathway is lined with benches to take it all in.
We ended the night watching the sunset, another thing to be aware of is that there are no fire pits here, if you want a fire after the sun goes down you need to bring your own small propane powered fire pit!
Waking up here for sunrise was so incredibly peaceful, taking in the ocean views with a cup of coffee is how I would ideally like to start everyday! If you're looking to go beach camping in California, look no further, I highly recommend this spot!
That's a wrap on my mini blog on camping at Crystal Cove Moro campground, I hope you enjoyed this and get a chance to experience camping at this spot soon!
